Trails of India
Travel To Freedom

Discovering Freedom. Discovering Travel. Discovering Independence.

Travel and freedom mean different things to different people. Some think of it as a way to peace, some think of it as a road to adventure. Some love to travel and freedom because they want to run away from something, some want to run towards. For some, it means reaching somewhere. Meanwhile, it’s about the journey for others.

On India’s 72nd Independence Day, the Trails of India team wanted to build on this philosophy. We wanted to know how the roads between travel and freedom connect. After a lot of discussions, we concluded that travel and freedom are connected in two ways. First, the way travel allows us to be free on a personal level. Second, the several no. of monuments built in India to commemorate our Independence, monuments every traveler should visit.

So we came up with plenty of answers based on the above two categories, most of which were from our awesome followers. But as we accumulate our followers’ answers, we wanted to share our team’s thoughts.

Our followers’ answers along with the winner’s announcements will follow soon.

Here are our thoughts on how Travel allows Freedom -

Travel is Freedom to Choose your Favourite Part of the World

When you go out into the world. No one has the power to stop you anywhere, and no one has the power to not let you go. Other people might share their opinions, but in the end, it’s on you. You choose the parts of the world you like the most and go there. In many cases, you can even build a new life there. There may be barriers, but there will always be a way for you to build bridges and live the life you want, wherever you want.

Travel is Freedom of the Soul

Mark Twain once said that Travel is fatal to bigotry, prejudice, and narrow-mindedness. Trails of India feels it has that exact effect on your soul. It frees you from what you assume to be correct and what you assume to be wrong. Rather than such narrow and objective outlooks, your soul opens up to other souls, ready to connect, understand and learn from them. Basically, travel frees you from the shackles of your mind and just be a relaxed version of yourself.

Travel is Freedom to put life on Pause

Travel gives you freedom from life, it helps you put things on pause and just play with the world. Explore whichever nook and cranny suit your fancy, forget about everyday problems. Not that everyday problems aren’t important, but some problems cannot be solved in a day. And we’re mere mortals who deserve a break to relax and recharge ourselves.

Monuments of India’s Freedom Struggle

Jallianwala Bagh

When our team began to talk about India’s freedom struggle, everyone thought of the same monument. That monument is Jallianwala Bagh. For those who might now know, over a thousand unarmed freedom fighters were shot at mercilessly in Jallianwala Bagh. These unarmed protestors included men, women, and children and led to Indian leaders becoming more resolute in their ask for freedom from British rule. The bullet holes from the incident have been preserved to this day. And make for quite a sight to patriotic Indians.

Sabarmati Ashram

Built on the bullet-proof ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Sabarmati Ashram houses the essential philosophies behind India’s quest for Independence.  That is self-dependence, honesty and most importantly, non-violence. Inside is a magnificent museum that exhibits Gandhi memorabilia, life-size paintings of the famous spinning wheel and photographs of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba. It is an ode to the Father of India and the leader of India’s freedom struggle.

This was just our take, our followers also gave their inputs on travel and freedom. We’re in the process of selecting the best ones and will be sharing them soon. Stay tuned :D
