Nanda Devi Sanctuary
Nanda Devi National Park along with the nearby Valley of Flowers was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. Nanda Devi National Park is a forest reserve cum national park (established at 1982) in the region surrounding the Nanda Devi peak and covers a region of 630.33sq kms. The name Nandadevi has been inspired from the name of the resident deity of the region Nanda Devi (a sign of Goddess Parvati). The Nanda Devi peak is mainly a glacial basin with a height of about 7,817 m (25,646ft) drained by Rishi Ganga through the sharp Rishi Ganga gorge.
Nanda Devi National Park is situated in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, in the transition range between the Zanskar range and Himalayan foothills.
